The Chapbook

Distance

  • familia
  • love

DistanceThat place where time and space meetWhich is infinitesimally smallAnd infinitely largeBoundless possibilities existIn the distance between two peopleThe distance between two heartsIt is in that distance that we see ourselvesReflectedIn the otherIn that distanceWhere we find ourselvesQuite by accidentUnsure of how we got thereNot knowing where to go from hereBut aware that this distanceIn this momentIs preciousUnlike anything we have ever experiencedExhilaratingLike the view of New York City from the Empire State BuildingFeeling like one false step could sending you plummetingAnd yet knowing that you are safeTerrifyingLike the first glimpse of the endless expanse of the PacificKnowing that you could drown in those dark, unfathomable depthsBut feeling like you could float to islands unknownWhere sweet fruits and soft sands awaitIt is in this distance between you and I, my love, where I meet myselfAnd realize that I have always known youAlways loved youIt is in this distance that IRealize that goddesses could dieEmpires could fallWorlds could crumblelovers could move onAnd I will still be hereLoving youAs hard and as fiercely as the day we metRegardless if we are fucking or notBecause you are my familyAnd if we aren’t there for each otherTo celebrate our victoriesOrWhen the distance between hatredAnd our bodies closeThan who?
