The Chapbook

Whittled

  • body

Whittled Down to the bone The length of my stomach Measured in the Calories I can consume

Sharper She said there’s Something different about me An angularity That wasn’t there before The pounds melted off And so did my tolerance For bullshit

My face was So round Moon shaped and soft I look harder now Older The bags under my eyes Pronouncing I’ve been awake a long time

Dad Would still be alive today If he took What I’m takingLonger Dead at 51 Than we were aliveTogether

I’ve always been fat A fact of life Accepted if Not loved Now I’m entering thin Society And I get to live?

Tatiana de la Tiera Also died At 51She was fat So was my dad And I get to live

Fat peopleSufferOverwhelming bullshit How much do we tolerate To surviveHow much of that daily StruggleBreaks downOur bodiesOur minds Our spirits Is it the fat that kills us? Or the world

I’m grateful I love my body I look hot And I no longerhave that Gnawing hunger Not satisfied Eating brought relief Fleeting Never enough

My mind is quieter nowI don’t obsess about the same things When I eat I get full When someone hurts meClear eyed I seeWhat is not going to change When things happen I accept

What will life Be like When I lose accessThis shit is expensiveAnd I don’t want to stop
